Kittredge Wildfire Mitigation
& Tree Removal.
Kittredge wildfire mitigation takes a property-specific approach. In Bear Creek Canyon between Evergreen and Morrison, wooded lots, steep slopes and narrow private drives shape how the work is planned. Stone Elk Land Services helps homeowners reduce connected fuels, address problem trees and preserve the character of their land.
Careful planning for Kittredge's wooded canyon homes.
Kittredge is set along Bear Creek and Highway 74, with older residential streets in the canyon bottom and wooded hillsides above. Its terrain makes planning as important as the cutting itself.
Properties near Myers Gulch Road, the Bear Creek corridor and the slopes above Kittredge may have dense pine cover, dry understory, narrow staging areas or vegetated access routes. A single prescription will not fit every homesite.
Stone Elk Land Services looks at the structure, surrounding trees, ground conditions and the practical route for getting wood and slash off the property. We recommend selective measures based on the landowner’s goals, not indiscriminate clearing.

Every job is shaped by the trees, terrain, driveway and removal options at the address—not by a generic acreage formula.
Wildfire Mitigation & Defensible Space
Reduce pine needles, deadfall, ladder fuels and dense shrubs that connect the ground to tree crowns. Start close to the home, then work outward through the home ignition zone according to actual site conditions.
Tree Removal & Selective Thinning
Address dead, declining, overcrowded or otherwise problematic trees. We discuss species, tree condition, nearby buildings, neighboring property and safe access before recommending removal or thinning.
Driveway & Access Vegetation Clearing
Plan tree and brush clearance along private drives, gates and equipment approaches where narrow, winding routes can limit access. Work is defined only within authorized boundaries and practical safety limits.
Forestry Mulching & Brush Reduction
Reduce overgrown saplings and woody understory on suitable ground. On steep or creek-adjacent sites, methods may shift toward targeted cutting, handwork and hauling instead of broad machine passes.
Bark Beetle & Forest Health Assessments
Review accessible pines and Douglas-fir for visible beetle evidence, crown decline and stress. We can suggest practical management priorities and specialist identification when symptoms do not establish a diagnosis.
Slash Handling, Land Clearing & Documentation
Plan how cut material will be chipped, hauled or otherwise lawfully managed. Optional dated photos, drone imagery or LiDAR can support project planning and before-and-after records when included in scope.

Creek corridors and canyon access change how forestry work gets done.
Along Bear Creek, Highway 74 and Myers Gulch Road, homes can sit close to steep slopes, private lanes and sensitive ground. The plan needs to account for space to work and where material can safely go.
- 01
Proximity to structures: Prioritize vegetation touching decks, roofing or fences, then look for connected brush and ladder fuels farther out.
- 02
Road and equipment access: Evaluate turning room, grades, overhead branches, shoulder conditions and safe staging before choosing machinery.
- 03
Creeks and property lines: Identify riparian areas, steep or erosive slopes, public land and road rights-of-way before cutting or mulching; special permissions may apply.
Start at the house. Work outward with intention.
Colorado State Forest Service guidance describes three zones of vegetation management. The appropriate scope still depends on topography, lot limits, fire exposure and tree condition.
Keep ignition sources away
Clear needles, leaves, dead vegetation and other combustible debris close to exterior walls, steps and decks. Home hardening and ongoing maintenance are critical.
Interrupt connected fuels
Address shrubs below conifers, low branches and dense fuel beds near the home. Preserve appropriate trees while reducing paths for fire to move upward.
Improve stand structure
Consider selective thinning, deadfall and brush treatment, with adjustments for steep slopes, adjoining parcels and erosion-sensitive ground.

From site concerns to a realistic scope of work.
We consider forest condition, access and material handling before presenting an estimate.
Discuss
Review trees, structures, property lines, your priorities and any fire-district or insurance recommendations.
Assess
Walk the site where feasible to assess slopes, clearance, equipment access and slash handling.
Scope
Define treatment limits, selected trees, methods, debris disposition and cost in a written estimate.
Complete & document
Perform authorized work and provide agreed cleanup or optional photo records of the finished area.
Fire-district guidance and Jefferson County rules matter.
Evergreen Fire/Rescue identifies Kittredge as part of its protection district and offers district-specific wildfire resources. Home assessments and its seasonal slash-chipping program have eligibility, registration and scheduling conditions.
Jefferson County’s Wildfire Resiliency Code took effect July 1, 2026 and primarily applies to certain new construction, building and zoning permit activities in mapped WUI areas. It does not automatically require every existing Kittredge home to be retrofitted. Confirm a parcel’s WUI classification and permit conditions with the county.
Three helpful checks
Ask about a free home assessment if your address is eligible.
Review seasonal deadlines, pile rules and district participation requirements.
Confirm ownership, creekside constraints and county permit triggers before work.
Serving Kittredge and neighboring Bear Creek properties.
From smaller canyon homesites to wooded hillside parcels, each estimate reflects actual boundaries, terrain, access and vegetation. Nearby public open space and creek corridors may require additional coordination.

Kittredge wildfire mitigation & tree service FAQs.
Helpful answers about Bear Creek, Evergreen Fire/Rescue, narrow drives, slash handling, forestry work and project estimates.
Where should a Kittredge homeowner begin with wildfire mitigation?
Start with the roof, gutters, decks and the immediate area around the home. Remove accumulated needles, leaves and other combustibles, then assess brush, ladder fuels, deadfall and conifer spacing farther out. Use a property-specific plan for slopes and adjoining vegetation.
Does Evergreen Fire/Rescue serve Kittredge?
Evergreen Fire Protection District includes Kittredge in its planning area. The district offers wildfire education, home assessments and chipping resources. Participation in any specific program depends on your parcel and the program’s current rules; verify your address directly with Evergreen Fire/Rescue.
Can Stone Elk clear trees and brush along a narrow Kittredge driveway?
Yes, where access and a site review support a safe scope. We consider overhead limbs, grade, curves, turning room, equipment reach and how debris can be removed. Some locations call for handwork or a more limited method.
Can forestry mulching be performed near Bear Creek?
Not every creekside area is suitable for heavy equipment or mulching. Streamside vegetation, wetlands, slopes, erosion risk and property permissions need review. We may recommend targeted cutting or hauling instead and do not treat creek channels without necessary authorization.
Do you remove dead or declining trees in Kittredge?
Tree removal and selective thinning are part of our services. We evaluate visible conditions, structure proximity, working space, drop zones and handling of wood and slash. Certain complex trees may require a specialist or a separate approach.
Should I remove every ponderosa pine around my home?
No. Defensible space is not the same as clear-cutting. A selective plan can preserve healthy trees while reducing flammable ground vegetation, low branches, crowded stems and dangerous fuel connections.
What signs may indicate bark beetle activity?
Pitch tubes, boring dust, woodpecker activity and crown changes may warrant closer inspection. Symptoms can have multiple causes and do not always identify the insect. We evaluate visible clues and suggest specialist confirmation when appropriate.
Is the Evergreen Fire/Rescue chipping program available all year?
No. The program is seasonal, has district-resident eligibility rules and may fill quickly. It is separate from Stone Elk’s paid forestry and slash-handling services. Check the current district calendar and pile specifications before planning around it.
Does Jefferson County’s 2026 Wildfire Resiliency Code apply to every existing Kittredge home?
Not automatically. Jefferson County describes the new rules as primarily tied to certain qualifying new construction, building and zoning permit activities within mapped WUI areas. Confirm the parcel, permit and applicable standards with the county; a contractor estimate is not a county compliance inspection.
Can we remove trees in a road right-of-way, creek corridor or public park?
Only with the appropriate authority and permission. Private landownership does not extend into every adjacent easement, roadway, watercourse or public open-space parcel. We define treatment boundaries before starting work.
How much does forestry mulching or tree removal cost in Kittredge?
Pricing depends on tree diameter and condition, terrain, accessibility, crew and equipment needs, hauling distance, disposal and cleanup expectations. Tight canyon access may change the best method. We provide a project-specific scope rather than an unsupported flat rate.
How do I request a Kittredge, CO estimate?
Call 303-475-4409 or email info@stoneelklandservices.com with your address, rough acreage, photographs, any driveway restrictions and the outcome you want. We can discuss whether an on-site assessment is the next step.
