Have a notice from your insurer?

Keep the letter and its response deadline. Ask the carrier what work and proof it specifically requires, then share the vegetation-related concerns with us. Our assessment does not extend insurer deadlines.

INSURANCE ASSESSMENTS WITH A PLAN

From an uncertain letter to an actionable forestry plan.

Insurance-related wildfire concerns can feel overwhelming. A carrier may mention nearby trees, continuous vegetation, ladder fuels, access, or a wildfire risk classification without explaining how to sequence the work.

COFRFFM reviews the vegetation side of your property, identifies priorities, and lays out achievable mitigation recommendations. Where helpful, we connect the assessment to forestry work and optional before-and-after documentation.

WHEN TO CALL US

Three common reasons homeowners reach out.

Whether you are reacting to an insurance request or planning ahead of renewal, start with a clear view of your property.

01 / NOTICE RECEIVED

Mitigation Letter or Inspection Request

Your carrier has asked for vegetation treatment, photographs, or additional information. We can evaluate vegetation concerns and propose a practical work scope.

Discuss your notice

02 / RENEWAL CONCERN

Nonrenewal or Coverage Concerns

If your property has been flagged for wildfire exposure, we can assess the surrounding vegetation and help you prioritize actions for discussion with your insurer.

What we assess

03 / PROACTIVE PLANNING

Prepare Before You Are Asked

Improve property stewardship before the next insurance review, with an organized baseline and a staged vegetation management plan.

How it works

WHAT WE REVIEW

Understand the property, not just a checklist.

Vegetation and terrain interact differently on every mountain property. The assessment considers the areas most relevant to a defensible-space work plan.

Illustrative overhead diagram of defensible space zones around a home, not a surveyed property
Conceptual planning illustration only. Actual property findings require on-site review and applicable measurements.

DEFENSIBLE SPACE & SITE CONDITIONS

Start at the home. Work outward.

We use Colorado State Forest Service zone guidance as a starting point, then consider the actual vegetation, buildings, terrain and access on your property.

0–5 ft

Immediate zoneCombustible materials and vegetation near structures.

5–30 ft

Intermediate zoneTree and brush arrangement, pruning and fuel continuity.

30–100+ ft

Extended zoneForest density, ladder fuels, slope and wider treatment needs.

These are planning distances, not a statement of your insurer’s individual requirements. Steep slopes may warrant treatments beyond 100 feet.

PROPERTY ASSESSMENT COMPONENTS

Specific observations. Clear priorities.

We focus on forestry conditions and recommend referrals for structural, roofing, vent or other building-hardening concerns outside our scope.

Home-adjacent fuels

Needles, brush, woody material and combustible vegetation close to the structure.

Trees & ladder fuels

Canopy connections, tree spacing, lower limbs, deadwood and understory growth.

Terrain & slope

Steep ground, upslope vegetation and conditions that influence treatment planning.

Access & work zones

Driveways, vegetation corridors, equipment limits and possible treatment boundaries.

Condition photographs

Dated supporting photos where included in the agreed assessment scope.

Work priorities

An ordered, realistic forestry action plan based on site findings and stated goals.

WHAT YOU RECEIVE

Assessment findings you can act on.

A useful assessment should help you decide what to do next, who needs to do it, and what information to keep.

A COFRFFM DIFFERENTIATOR

Mitigation work is good.
Documented change is better.

Where practical and included in the agreed scope, our separate LiDAR & Insurance Reporting service can add baseline and post-work aerial imagery, vegetation mapping and comparison documentation.

The assessment identifies what may need work. The documentation package can help show what was done.

COLORADO HOMEOWNER RESOURCE

Understand the wildfire-risk information from your insurer.

Colorado HB25-1182, effective July 1, 2026, establishes disclosure and appeal-related obligations for covered property insurers using wildfire-risk scoring. Ask your insurer about its specific process, mitigation considerations, and deadlines. COFRFFM can document forestry conditions but does not determine or overturn insurance scores.

YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Insurance assessment FAQs.

Can you guarantee my insurer will renew coverage?

No. Only the insurer decides on underwriting, renewal, discounts and acceptance of materials. We provide independent vegetation observations and recommendations to support your planning and communications.

Is this the same as an insurance company inspection?

No. This is an independent forestry and vegetation assessment, not a carrier-issued inspection, actuarial risk score, legal opinion, or insurance compliance certification. Confirm any required inspection standards directly with your insurer.

Should I send you my insurance notice?

Yes, you can share the relevant mitigation instructions, property concerns and deadline when you contact us. Please do not email policy numbers, financial information or other sensitive personal details that are unnecessary for a forestry consultation.

Can you perform the recommended mitigation work too?

We can discuss an agreed scope of forestry treatments including defensible space, selective thinning, brush reduction, mulching and related services. Availability and equipment access depend on property conditions.

Does the assessment include a drone or LiDAR scan?

Not automatically. Drone imagery and LiDAR analysis are separate options subject to equipment availability, lawful flight operations, site conditions and the service scope you select.

What if my notice has a short deadline?

Contact your insurer immediately about its deadline and documentation requirements. We can discuss our availability, but cannot promise to meet a carrier deadline or obtain an extension on your behalf.
